The Grey Go-Away Bird is found from central to southern Africa, specifically Eastern Angola, southern
Tanzia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, much of north Malawi, Zambia, northern Mozambique and
Northeastern South Africa.
They prefer to inhabit drier areas, mainly dry riparian forests and savanna woodlands.
They prefer an open space, so once woodlands start encroaching on their territory they move
elsewhere. Its almost as if they want to be seen...
Biology
It has a long tail and is usually solitary and likes to tell you to go away from the top of trees branches
or bushes, much like my son.
It is mostly grey in colour, and appears similar to the Grey Catbird, but has a feathery mohawk as a
crest on its head, like the punk kids who throw parties under the highway overpass. Just like those little
punks, this little twat has an annoying call of
"go-waaaayyyyyy", hence the name...
Behavior wise, they scuttle to and fro in search of fruits, plant leaves and insects. I hear you can
spot them running up branches when theyre hungry, and sometimes youll find one in your backyard of garden...
hmm...
They're monogamous (like a TRUE family), and make super lame nests out of the thinnest sticks they can
find. Its like they don't even care, bloody hell. Apparently the father also helps raise the chicks? Woke. It seems
feminism has spread further than we thought.
THE GREY GO-AWAY BIRD IS TELLING US TO GO AWAY. IT IS HIDING SOMETHING.
